Social Media’s Impact in Education

To Use …. Or Not To Use…. Social media is everywhere and seems to be part of everybody’s lives with people sharing parts of their everyday lives, promoting their business to becoming social media icons.   Before taking class EDU 766 at Dominican University, I would consider   myself borderline for joining social media platforms professionally. In my early years of teaching, I made a conscious effort to keep my work life separate from my personal life and away from social media.   However, throughout my exploration in technology, I have begun to see the importance in using social media as an educator and now plan on joining social media platforms to help grow my own PLN (Personal Learning Network) and I now have started to “friend” colleagues on Facebook to make personal connections with co-workers.  SO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM!!  Image Source: DifferencesBetween.net So when asked to explore an area of social media, I chose to look more closely a...

Technology Impact "My Personal Reflection"

The Beginning….. Growing up I didn’t have access to social media because it just wasn’t available until my  last few years as an undergraduate in college. At first I was a little hesitant/nervous to accept it and put myself out there online; but with some convincing from my BFF and my boyfriend (now husband) I joined the social media bandwagon and have never looked back.   Comparably to my childhood with technology, my first several years in teaching lacked technology integration within the classroom. Some of these tools I have become reliant on for instruction. This GIF that I shared in my first post I think still demonstrates my growth in teaching with tech per...

Digital Footprint vs. Digital Tattoo………. Many of us growing up with the internet have been told to be careful with the information that we put out on the internet and have referred to our internet interactions as digital footprints. However, there is a new term coined called digital tattoos that might soon replace the term digital footprints. The reasoning for this shift is because, like a tattoo, your digital mark is permanent in nature, where a footprint can be erased/washed away.   Digital Footprint/Tattoo: (according to The Wisconsin Department of Public Information   ) “ A digital footprint (sometimes called digital tattoo) is the information that exists online about you and your activity”.  Image Source: The Profile   So what is the difference between a digital footprint and a digital tattoo?   Not too much, but this is the way I see them……  Both of them contain information that exists online about your activity, but how the material is p...
